George Vital “Papa Jack” Laine Sept 21, 1873 – June 1, 1966

Papa Jack was not only my great great uncle but an extremely important figure in the creation of early Jazz around the turn of the 20th century.

Many of the musicians he hired to play in his bands went on to become quite famous while he went quietly unrecognized for helping them get their start.

It’s my goal to provide accurate and complete information about Papa Jack’s life and achievements and to remind people where and how Jazz came about.

I hope you enjoy the site and if you have any photos or information about Papa Jack you’d like to share please sign up and post a message here. Thanks very much!
